Assignment 3 (Good Citizens)
A good citizen is someone who contributes to the community and or their local area. They
could be collecting litter or recycling to help reproduce used bottles. A good citizen also pays
all bills what are due on time, pays taxes and work hard at their job, reducing
unemployment level. A good citizen is someone who puts others first and may even go
beyond the call of duty to help others willingly.
The qualities of a good citizen are that they should be honest because being honest will
allow a good citizen to become more trust worthy. A good citizen should be reliable because
people may have to rely on you to complete their job on time without letting them down.
You must also be punctual because you will have to turn up on time to where you work or
volunteer.
The benefits of a good citizen are being able to produce a stable community; Volunteers in the public
services are needed to be good citizens in order to do their job with the set guidelines and firm, fair
and friendly. They make up a high percentage of the police force and are a vital part in the public
services. A volunteer in the police must be a good citizen as they would be working and dealing with
public on an everyday basis; for example meeting members of the public that are drunk or disorderly
and need to be calmed down and sent home it is the volunteer’s job to use his good citizen skills to
ensure this happens. A volunteer in the paramedic service needs to have good citizen skills to
ensure that they meet and have to look after injured members of public or even family members of
the injured. They need good citizen skills to be able to calm down and communicate with those
people and have empathy towards the injured. For example if a person is a volunteer in the public
service would help them into the ambulance and help calm the family members of the injured.
A volunteer in the public service has good citizenship skills as they are devoting their own personal
time they have on members of the public and helping the community, but whilst they are doing this
they are not being paid in any way. They are also gaining life skills and experience at the same time,
this is important for them if they want to join a public service as this gives you a better chance of
being chosen in the selection process.
Volunteers in the community have good citizen skills as they are devoting their personal time of their
day that they could be using on themselves. This shows they are a good citizen and both loyal and
devoted to the public services. Also, as a volunteer you must challenge injustice for example if you
