Voedselbanken zitten zonder voedsel omdat de federale overheid achterloopt met de
aankoop van melk en bloem.

BRUSSEL ‘We zitten zonder melk, bloem, rijst, olie, pasta om uit te delen aan
wie het financieel moeilijk heeft. Normaal krijgen we dat van de federale
overheid, maar dit jaar hebben we nog niets gezien’, zegt Guido
Vandebrouck van de voedselbank Sint-Vincentius Genk. Volgens Piet
Vanthemsche, voorzitter van de Belgische federatie van Voedselbanken, is
Sint-Vincentius niet de enige in dat geval: ‘Het hele land zit met tekorten’.
De reden is dat de federale overheid talmt met de aankoop van het
voedsel. ‘Vroeger kreeg België voedsel van Europa om uit te delen aan de
voedselbanken. Maar sinds 2014 is dat omgezet in geld’, zegt Nahima
Lanjri, Kamerlid van CD&V. ‘Tussen 2014 en 2020 gaat het om 88 miljoen
euro. Met dat geld koopt België eten aan. Dat is de taak van de POD
Maatschappelijke Integratie die daar aanbestedingen voor uitschrijft. Dat
voedsel wordt dan verdeeld onder 358 OCMW’s en 419 organisaties, die
daar 157.000 behoeftigen mee helpen. Dat zijn niet alleen leefloners maar
allerlei mensen die financieel niet rondkomen.’
Maar de levering van die voeding loopt steeds meer vertraging op zodat
de voedselbanken leegstaan. ‘Ik heb minister Denis Ducarme (MR), die
