Se le llama modernismo porque se busca crear un arte nuevo, rompiendo con los “neos”. Adopta un nombre
diferente en cada país; Art Nouveau (Francia), Sezession, Liberty, Modernismo (España). Características:
● Destinado a la burguesía (caras)
● Inspirado en la naturaleza
● William Morris uno de los principales teóricos (movimiento Arts and
Crafts)
● Arquitectura lujosa y decorativa
● Libertad y diferenciación
● Exteriores en piedra, cerámica y hierro forjado
● Interiores con paredes curvas (superficies onduladas)
● Escala humana
● Predominio del cristal
● Gran cantidad de texturas
● Predominio de cerámica vidriada (motivos vegetales y ornamentales)
● Funcionalidad ligada a lo decorativo

4.2 Modernismo en España
Se inicia en la zona de Cataluña (más industrializada). Con el Romanticismo había surgido el sentimiento
nacionalista y de amor por el catalán (Jocks Florals). Este movimiento se llama la Renaixença.
