Wij bewoners van de aarde moeten het zien te stellen met wat de planeet aarde ons
aan voorraden te bieden heeft, namelijk planten, dieren, lucht, water en de mens.
Zo’n natuurlijk systeem noem je een ecosysteem (zie figuur 2.1).

Een natuurlijke kringloop is een kringloop die zichzelf in stand houdt, alles gaat in
een kringetje rond waardoor iets nooit opraakt (alles houd elkaar in evenwicht).
Dat planten, dieren en mensen in zo’n ecosysteem kunnen blijven leven, heeft met
verschillende factoren te maken:
wat voor een bodem er is
of er genoeg water is
Ook speelt de zon een hele belangrijke rol, zonder de zon zou leven op aarde
onmogelijk zijn. De zon is namelijk de moter van de kringlopen en zorgt voor het
natuurlijke broeikaseffect.
De draagkracht is het maximum aantal mensen dat in een gebied kan leven zonder
schade aan te richten aan de natuurlijke kringloop in de leefomgeving.
