1517: llega a España Carlos I, hijo de Juana la loca y Felipe el hermoso, nieto de los RRCC einstaura una nueva dinastía: la Casa de los Austrias. Recibe una gran extensión de territorios
como herencia. Llega a la pen sin conocer el idioma y acompañado de consejeros flamencos
que obtendrán un trato de favor. Esto, junto a los altos impuestos aplicados a Castilla para
financiar su deseo de obtener el titulo de emperador del Sacro Imperio Romano-germánico
provocan malestar social y revueltas como: Las Comunidades de Castilla: levantamiento
urbano apoyado por campesinos en la que comuneros pedían mayor participación en el
gobierno, fue sofocada en 1521 en Villalar. Las Germanías de Aragón: en reino de Valencia
y Mallorca surge revolución de carácter antiseñorial, fueron derrotadas por los señores
apoyados por las tropas del monarca.
Carlos I defendió el catolicismo como religión oficial e inició conflictos (batalla de Mulhberg-
1547 y paz de Augsburgo-1556) con varios príncipes alemanes que abrazaron la doctrina
protestante de Lutero. Tuvo enfrentamientos con Francia y los turcos (1525-Batalla de pavía
contra el rey francés Francisco I, gana Carlos I)
