Unit 19 – Maxine Wellenberg – 2H2

, Introduction Unit 19

My name is Maxine Wellenberg and I'm 17 years old. I currently
work for 2 years in the hospitality industry in a small restaurant in
the center of Elburg. I started there as a dishwasher and have
grown much further in the company, I am currently working in the
ministry to take orders from guests and I am regularly put in charge
when the owner / manager is not there.

I never expected that I would like the hospitality industry so much.
Because I went to work at the Zilverzoen I have chosen for this
education , I am very happy here and look forward to learn more
from the hospitality industry.

1.0 introduction of this chapter:

This paper is about understanding the hospitality
industry. In this chapter I'm going to tell you more
about sales in the hospitality industry and the
important points that come with it.

- How do you present yourself?

- What are the relationships with your guests?

I already have reasonable knowledge about the
hospitality industry but I am curious what this unit
will bring me.

, 1.1 Sales in general:

Understand the market: Nowadays, there are a lot of things that the hospitality industry has to deal
with. You can always see that trends are emerging around food. Many people have become
vegetarian in recent years, and as a restaurant you have to adapt to this so that vegetarian people
can also eat out. an example of the modern hospitality industry are robots. In many restaurants
nowadays you can order your food on a tablet, this also has its drawbacks. Robots make the
hospitality industry less and less hospitable.

Understand the company:

- Mission: A mission is a deeper motivator to make your contribution as a company or
organization. If the mission is clear, a company can go through a storm, but then every
employee knows why he did what he did and that knowledge helps you stay on your feet in
difficult situations. A mission is a permanent thing that doesn't change every year.

- Vision: What does a company go for? A vision paper describes the future dream of the
organisation and the contribution that the organisation wants to make to society. In a vision,
the mission is given concrete hands and feet. A vision is often written for a certain period, is
evaluated and adjusted if necessary. Each time it is checked whether what is done is still in
line with the mission of the organization.

- Value: An organisation's values are its guiding principles which apply across the organisation
and underpin how its work is carried out. An organisation's values are its basic beliefs about
what really matters, which guide how things should be done.

Achievement Skills
Knows products and services:

If you have a hospitality company (or if you work in a hospitality company), it is important that you
know what kind of products you have and what kind of services you provide. You must be able to
explain as much as possible to your guests, think of wine/food combinations. If guests have questions
about the different services you offer, you should be able to tell them. Guests often spend a lot of
money on your restaurant, you should always try to satisfy them. Here is the menu of the restaurant
where I work, so guests can see in advance what's on the dinner menu.

At work we get an explanation about the entire menu once in the season.
- How are the dishes prepared?
- What allergies can dishes contain?
- What are the specials outside the menu and what does this cost?

In this way we ensure that we can give our guests as much information as possible.
