, My worldview has been molded and evolved throughout the course of my life and career.
Multiple factors can influence a person’s worldview. Things that have impacted my worldview is
my upbringing by a single mother, my family, my knowledge, and my patients. My life
experiences have cultivated me into the person I am today. Three aspects of my worldview are
ethical decisions, a strong knowledge base, and trust in others. No one persons worldview is
better than anyone else’s. Each person’s worldview comes from personal experiences and may
not fit into others world. There is no right or wrong with worldviews. “People nowadays
construct their own personal worldview, which is not necessarily based on one specific organized
worldview and therefore it can be more eclectic and idiosyncratic than an organized worldview”
(van der Kooij, de Ruyter, & Miedema, 2015, p. 347).
Growing up in a one-parent household made me the independent woman that I am today. It
also made me appreciate everything I had (and didn’t have) as a child and have as an adult
because I have worked for it and earned it all. The values my mother instilled in me remain and I
have raised my children the same way. I believe this has made my children appreciate everything
they have, and they know that nothing in life is free and everything is worth working for. “The
way we view the world is constantly evolving and is shaped by a multitude of indigenous factors
such as health, biology, and mental capacity and a number of exogenous factors including but not
limited to, socioeconomic status, life experiences, environment, and culture” (Hoogland, 2015, p.
33).
As nurses, we encounter so many diverse cultures That I believe nurses are more open-
minded and accepting. To me, nursing is not just a job or a career but a calling. I love what I do
and would not choose anything else. In that regard, my worldview has some religious aspects as
well. Florence Nightingale who was a real pioneer in nursing “emphasized nursing as a calling,
