, This article talks about Brandon Alcorn, a construction worker in Nova Scotia who

suffered irreversible brain damage and died from falling at a construction site. As he

was only 22 years old and such a kind man that everyone loved, the loss had a huge

impact on his family. According to his dad, last year is a rough time for him since he

thinks about Brandon everyday and every time walking by the construction site, he can’t

look at it the same way he used to. The family encourages workers to decline

dangerous work, regardless of the repercussions, and requests businesses do their

best on moderating dangers too. In fact, there are some administrative fines and

legislation but they are still not enough to force the businesses from putting the safety of

their employees over profits. In this story, unfortunately, there is no comment given by

anybody responsible for the accident and there is no charge for them either.

The article captures my attention because my brother used to work for a cleaning

company and there were many times he had to climb the high ladder without any safety

equipment, once he fell and got spinal cord injury, the employer paid for the accident

but it wasn’t enough since he wasn’t able to work until one year later. I feel related and

empathy towards the family of the victim so that I decided to choose it. The article helps

me be more aware of the safety in workplace; therefore, I can protect myself and people

I know from threats that could cost our lives.
