The fault out in our stars

Summary
Hazel is sixteen years old and she should have been dead by now. She has
cancer and three years before the book started she had already given up, but
an experimental drug prolongs her life. Because Hazel can no longer just go to
school, her world is quite small. Her parents are overprotective and she hates
the church support group. One day, a new boy suddenly joins the support
group: Augustus. Hazel is immediately intrigued by him. His whole demeanour
and the way he looks at her immediately piques her interest. Actually, Augustus
was only supposed to come along once with his friend Isaac, but Hazel and he
immediately connect and so Augustus joins the support group for good.
Augustus and Hazel quickly develop a good relationship and they spend a lot of
time together. However, Hazel is very afraid of hurting people around her by
dying and that's why she keeps people at a bit of a distance. Slowly the two fall
in love, but Hazel has a lot of trouble surrendering to it. Hazel's favourite book
is 'An Imperial Affliction' by Peter Van Houten, a writer living in the
Netherlands. The book is about a sick girl and it ends in the middle of the story.
Hazel assumes that's because the girl dies or becomes too ill to write (it's
written in diary form), but she's very eager to know what happens to the other
characters in the book. Augustus also reads the book on Hazel's advice and
that's how he becomes curious. Having previously given up, Hazel has already
spent her wish from the Wish Foundation on an outing at an amusement park.
However, Augustus still has his wish and he arranges that Hazel and he can
travel to Amsterdam to meet Peter van Houten. There is no escaping it in
Amsterdam: Hazel and Augustus are in love. They have a very nice time
together, but the meeting with Peter van Houten does not go quite as they had
hoped. Van Houten turns out to be a grumpy drunk who has no problem
making the most inappropriate statements. So Hazel and Augustus don't get
the answers they'd hoped for. At home it turns out that Augustus' cancer is
back. Augustus quickly deteriorates and Hazel suddenly realizes that she has
made a mistake by keeping her loved ones at a distance. The tables have
turned and Hazel would never have wanted Augustus to keep her at a distance
just because it would hurt her if he died. During the last phase of his life, Hazel
