Definition: The cardiovascular system refers to the heart, blood vessels and the blood. Blood contains oxygen and other nutrients which your
body needs to survive. The body takes these essential nutrients from the blood.
CHD is plaque buildup in your arteries. It's known as hardening of the arteries, too. Arteries
carry blood and oxygen to your heart.
Main Symptoms: Heart attack, chest pain, heart failure and unusual breathlessness.
Treatment: The main treatments for coronary heart disease are healthy lifestyle changes and medicines. Surgery may be needed if it's severe.
A stroke occurs when the blood that is carrying oxygen to a section of the brain is unable to reach it due to a blockage.
Therefore, since the heart is an essential part of the circulatory system, preventing cardiac problems is vital to reducing the
risk of suffering a stroke.
Main Symptoms: Face – the face may have dropped on 1 side, the person may not be able to smile, or their mouth or eye may have dropped.
Arms – the person with suspected stroke may not be able to lift both arms and keep them there because of weakness or numbness in 1 arm.
Speech – their speech may be slurred or garbled, or the person may not be able to talk at all despite appearing to be awake; they may also have
problems understanding what you're saying to them.
Treatment: A stroke needs to be treated in hospital as soon as possible. Treatments include medicines to treat blood clots and sometimes brain
surgery. It also depends on the type of stroke you have.
Anemia can lead to a rapid or irregular heartbeat (arrhythmia). When you're anemic your heart must pump more
blood to make up for the lack of oxygen in the blood. This can lead to an enlarged heart or heart failure. Death.
Symptoms: extreme fatigue, weakness, pale skin, chest pain, shortness of breath and headache.
Treatment: Treatment for this form of anemia usually involves taking iron supplements and changing your diet.
