I chose this novel because this is the sequel of after we fell. This was the book I read for book
assignment 1. I started reading this series of Anna Todd one year ago and it took my breath
away each time, so I was excited to read this novel as well.
At the end of the book I was astound, because every time Hardin and Tessa had a fight, Tessa
would just forgive him, and everything was alright. But this time it was different and I didn’t
expect this ending. It left me feeling unpleased but not unsettled. Since I read all the other
novels, I saw the growth in Tessa and her making a very hard decision which will end all her
misery. She finally saw that Hardin was the love of her life but she will always be miserable
if they stayed together. You also hear Hardin and this story was incredibly heartbreaking to
read. Either way I didn’t like this book as much as the others but it was a nice read.
After Ever Happy picks up right after Hardin and Tessa find out that Christian Vance is his
biological father and not Ken Scott. Hardin was just beginning to turn his life around and he
was starting to form a better relationship with not just Ken who he thought was his father, but
also his stepbrother Landon. Hardin lets his anger rule over him because it is the emotion, he
has become so familiar with all his life, and he does something unthinkable; he burns down
his childhood home.
Tessa is completely lost, literally and figuratively. Tessa has never had a problem being able
to get through to Hardin before but there is something different this time.
When Tessa returns home, she has resigned herself to move on without Hardin and start
things fresh. Unfortunately, as things often go, tragedy strikes and sends her on a
heartbreaking downward spiral of intense depression. Hardin has broken her heart far too
many times to count and she has reached her breaking point.
Just like all the other books, After Ever Happy is told through Hardin’s, Tessa’s, and
Landon’s view. They all tell the same story, but we read them how the narrator experienced it.
Because this book is a sequel, the story expands on the events from the previous
books. After Ever Happy begins with the drama about Hardin’s biological father.
The protagonists are Tessa and Hardin, but Landon plays an important role as well.
Hardin and Tessa are having a lot of trouble in their relationship, Landon is the stepbrother of
Hardin and Tessa’s best friend. Kenn and Christian are important characters too because they
are Hardin’s fathers.
The story begins in London, where Hardin’s mother is getting married. Later on, the
book continues in Seattle and London where Tessa is working again and Hardin is still living
his normal life.
Tessa finds out she can’t have kids in the middle of the book. Where in het end Tessa
and Hardin do get the HEA. Finally, they have started to mature and deal with some of the
issues in their relationship. They decided that they really are made for each other and started
their own family.
After Ever Happy is a journey about self-discovery and pushing boundaries to find
your true love. I think the main theme of the book is love but also jealousy and anger issues
are essential topics in these books.
