REF: APPLICATION FOR A FAMILY NURSE PRACTITIONER
I am writing this letter in efforts to place a role within your health care system, particularly in regards to the position that is open for a Family Nurse Practitioner. I am a recent graduate from Walden State University as a family nurse practitioner. I have over 17 years’ experience as a registered nurse.
Throughout the course of my career, I have learned many different skills as, as well as the importance of
bringing positive social change to organizations. Caring for patients is something I do passionately. I strongly believe in Ohiohealth’s mission statement and their goals to achieve not only patient outcomes but to improve the quality of life for their community and the staff that are employed. An opportunity to participate in this wonderful initiative would prove worthy for the community and patients I serve as I lifelong member of this area where my roots run deep. I am looking to expand my career growth, thus my application for the position referenced above.
I am currently employed by a Ohiohealth as a staff nurse. Over the years, I have covered several different
areas of the hospital and took a short stent in administration where I did not feel it was my calling, I did learn immensely the importance of an administrator’s job. Covering various different departments and specialties, has assisted me to gain knowledge about patient safety, time management, staffing dilemma’s, culture improvement, patient satisfaction, quality coordination among the hospital and most of all the care needed for the patients we serve. I have worked with patients from admission to discharge and helped along the way of the hospital stay. I have worked closely with our outside resources to make sure that patients get the care and follow ups they need once discharge. I strongly believe and preventative care and education to the patient. I have provided coordinated care with pharmacies, home health, social services, physical therapy, transportation, higher acuity care, etc. Overseeing the whole picture for the patient has helped me to make more intimate connections with them in order to have a better understanding of what their capabilities are.
As a nurse for almost two decades, I have seen my fair share of job turnover. I know how to motivate co- workers and peers and encourage them to do what is best for the patients as well as themselves. I consider
myself a useful resource to them in addition to adding to the positive work culture. I am able to work individually with minimal supervision as I am familiar with the process used in the clinical setting. I also am competent to work in a group setting to help tie up loose ends, mediate toxic relationships and organize stressful times. Throughout my education I have been educated and equipped with skills to develop treatment plans in reference to the must up to date evidence practice and standards of care. I am also versed with what is appropriate for my scope of practice.
