RESEARCH METHODOLOGY PROJECT - 2018[30 MARKS]
Answer the following sets of questions. The sets include questions relating to research topic, research title,
research problems and questions and objectives. There are 30 marks possible for the project. In illustrating
your answers, more credits or bonus marks will be awarded to submissions that include reference to contents
from the textbooks, class lectures and library IL sessions, Blackboard slides/presentations, etc.
Instructions:
This assignment needs to be completed in a group context (groups should consist of between 3 to 5
students of the same class group).
This assignment needs to be answered in a written context (formal academic writing) and should be
done by making use of MS Word.
The answer sheet should have a cover page with the relevant details of students (name, surname,
student number, etc.) and a references page.
All references cited should be done in accordance with the Harvard Referencing Method.
Formatting of the MS Word document should be done in Arial 12 pt; full justification, 1.5 line spacing.
The actual length of the answer should be more than 2 pages; not exceeding 5 pages.
Final submissions to be made in hard copy format to your respective lecturers;
Do not submit as an email attachment.

Research Project / Scenario
As part of an on-going research project for her BTech Research Methodology course, Karen Loots has
accepted to undertake a study of the effectiveness of the audit committee in a National Health Scheme
(NHS) Trust. As per invitation by the National Health Trust Karen should report her findings to the Ministry of
Health and Wellness on whether the Trust gets value for money. She also learned that the Audit Committee
does not fulfil its responsibilities optimally resulting from interference of some board members and
management. Her research title was: ‘An evaluation of the effectiveness of the Audit Committee in Western
Cape Hospitals’ NHS Foundation Trust’.

1.9 Suggest a suitable type of research methodology in which research questions in 1.3 could
be answered. Provide justification for your answer. [2]
1.10 In order to practice the skill of reference writing, find three references for the studies
which have investigated the topic, OR which type of references to use to investigate
this topic. Include three examples in an academically accepted format. [3]
