Ecosysteem = begrensd gebied met een wisselwerking tussen de organismen onderling en
hun omgeving.
De heuvels van Lachay
Er is energie nodig voor het vormen van organische stoffen. Lezen

Door fotosynthese kunnen planten met zonlicht organische stoffen maken uit anorganische
stoffen.
Zo maken ze energie beschikbaar voor andere organismen.
Producenten leggen energie vast in organische bindingen.
Planten zijn foto-autotroof, maken met lichtenergie organische stoffen
Consumenten zijn heterotroof, gebruiken organische stoffen als bouw- en brandstof.
De energie die vrijkomt verlaat gedeeltelijk in warmte
Reducenten = schimmels en bacteriën leven van gestorven organismes en hun organische
afvalproducten.
Sommige bacteriën zijn ook autotroof
Chemosythese = opbouwen van organische stoffen met behulp van energie die vrijkomt bij
chemische reactie met anorganische stoffen.
Bv. Nitrietbacteriën (glucose uit CO2 en H2O)
Dit heet chemo-autotroof
NO3- is afvalstof van nitraatbacteriën, dit nemen planten op.
De mist in de heuvels is belangrijk, maar komt door klimaatverandering niet altijd terug.

Populaties nemen af door sterfte en emigratie
Een groter eiland heeft meer habitats en ecologische niches, dus meer variatie.
