Synopsis
Amazon was founded by Jeff Bezos in July 1994. It started as a small online
marketplace for books, and it became a Public Limited Company in May 1997
offering their shares to the public. In October 1998 the company launched its
first two international websites in the UK and Germany. Amazon is considered
a large organisation as they now employee approximately 1.3 million people
around the world.
What really contributes to Amazon’s success is the attention they pay to every
single customer which is not easy as they are a global organisation, and they
deliver approximately 1.6 million packages per day. They set a certain delivery
day and they keep their promise which is the reason 89% of buyers trust them
and they would choose amazon than other ecommerce sites.
Through the years Amazon has been criticised of the way they treat their
employees however, in 2021 Amazon has offered to pay college tuition for
750,000 employees in the US, giving them access to education.
The demand for online shopping is constantly growing especially after the 2019
pandemic. It has start changing people's lives and it makes shopping more
convenient and faster than visiting a store. This indicates that in the future
Amazon will be growing more which also means that they will be recruiting
more staff.
Workforce planning

store. In 2015 they opened their first physical store which creates the need of
hiring new staff that has the skills to run the stores. This shows us that as the
company expands, new skills are required which also means new employees
need to be hired.
Sickness cover
Sickness is very common in any type of organisation whether it is large or small
and in order to cover someone’s position the company will have to recruit new
employees. Advertisements made by Amazon, or any other company always
need to let the candidate that the position is temporary.
Business growth
During Covid-19 Amazon was one of the companies that grew massively.
Because of people being unable to go outside and shop in store, the demand of
online shopping increased. This led to hiring new staff to cover new positions.
Tax deduction
One of the benefits of hiring new employees is that the business gets some tax
deductions. This benefit is given to the organisations as they help to decrease
unemployment. For example, when Amazon hires a new employee, the
government doesn’t have to support them financially anymore because their
employer will be paying them a salary.
Staff turnover
When an Amazon employee or more leave, the company must make sure that
they cover those positions by hiring new people. It is important to conduct exit
interviews with the employees that leave in order to make sure that there is
