El nombre “Aldehído” significa
“alcohol deshidrogenado”.
Se forma por un alcohol primario
el cual sufre una oxidación dando

Los aldehídos son parte de muchos de los aromas y sabores que se
reconocen con facilidad como la vainilla (Vainillina), canela
(Cinamaldehído), aroma a almendra (Benzaldehído) …
En la industria, moléculas pequeñas como el “Formaldehído”
son muy utilizadas, por ejemplo, en la conservación de algunas
vacunas.
Nomenclatura
Para nombrar hidrocarburos con aldehídos en sus estructuras se siguen los
siguientes pasos:
Identificar la cadena principal de carbonos (el sufijo ‘al’ indica la
presencia de un aldehído).
Identificar los sustituyentes.
Asignar localizadores a los sustituyentes.
Nombrar estructura colocando los sustituyentes con nombre
alfabético.
Cuando se establece una cadena principal, el carbono del aldehído debe
estar incluido en ella.
En la imagen se ilustra una cadena de 6 carbonos
donde en uno de los extremos hay un aldehído, y en
el carbono siguiente un radical alquilo, por lo que el
nombre completo sería: 2-propilhexanal.
