ABSTRACT
The aim is to determine how eff ecti ve turmeric is in killing bacteria. Turmeric is a
spice which is derived from the root of Curcuma Longa (a perennial herb with pointed
leaves that sprouts yellow-coloured fl owers). It contains an isolated polyphenol called
curcumin. It has been used over thousands of years as an herbal remedy in folk and
Indian medicine to treat various illnesses including infl ammati on and blood diseases.
