Imperialism Case Study

In history, Imperialism was a foreign policy practiced by various nations, particularly

European countries, the United States, and few Asian counties which enforced their political,

economic or cultural authority over another country or region[ CITATION Bec20 \l 1033 ]. One

of the key elements in the success of imperialism was the exploitation of colonial resources and

indigenous. The exploitation was a result of the widespread ethnocentrism of the time and was

justified by the unscientific concept of social Darwinism. Charles Darwin’s Social Darwinism

theory was embraced the characteristics of white Europeans and inaccurately ascribed negative

characteristics to indigenous peoples. The ridiculous theory of natural selection to the

evolutionof human societies inspired Europe and United States of the inexorable rise of the

West, extending Western influence on Africa and Asia[ CITATION Dui15 \l 1033 ].

Britain Imperialism of India

During the Age of Imperialism, Britain was known to play a significant role and their

Empire expansion was to be the largest empire in the world. During the 1760s, After the Battle of

Plassey and Battle of Buxar, the British acquired India from Mughal emperor and expanded in

the Indian subcontinent by employing the military in territorial colonialism in India and gaining

full control and establishing colonial domination[ CITATION Rah18 \l 1033 ].

Social Darwinism

Social Darwinism is a theory developed in Britain by Charles Darwin that proposes

evolution by natural selection of biological diversity. This theory misused for unscientific

purpose to justify a racial, superiority human race, social, political, or economic conditions. After

Britain obtained complete control over India, they implemented strategies that were used when

they colonized other counties, take over the lands, divide and rule, apartheid laws, ethnocentrism,
