1. INTRODUCTION
Dear ACECE2C Student

We at Unisa’s Department of Science and Technology Education extend a cordial welcome to
you as a student of the module COMPUTER LITERACY FOR TEACHERS. We want to assure
you of the professional guidance and support that you can expect from the staff of the
Department.
COMPUTER LITERACY FOR TEACHERS is a module about training teachers in using
Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) to improve and enhance teaching and
learning activities in the classroom. This module, therefore, focuses on computer literacy for
teachers.
The modern view of computer literacy for teachers is that it should actually be a combination of
three literacies: computer literacy as a knowledge and understanding of computers and their
uses; information literacy as a knowledge and understanding of how to find, analyse, select and
use information; and integration literacy as a knowledge and understanding of how to use
computer and related technologies in combination with teaching and learning strategies to
enhance learners’ learning.
We trust that after completing this module you will have indeed proved yourself as a computer
literate teacher who is able to use technology in combination with teaching and learning
strategies to enhance learning in the classroom.
The rest of this tutorial letter contains general but important information with regard to your study
programme, as well as assignments 01, 02 and 03.
Best wishes with your studies!

Mrs AR Molotsi
ACECE2C Lecturer
