i. When there is generation of overland flow + intensity > infiltration capacity
of ground
b. But it is more dominant in arid tropics
i. Rainfall intensity is higher + Surface ground has lower infiltration capacity
ii. ⇒ Rills (CS: Radium Hill, South Australia), gullies (CS: Victoria River, Australia)

2. However, in the arid tropics, resultant landforms created by aeolian processes are larger in
scale → > dominant
a. Arid tropics: Dry, sparse vegetation → Strong winds can be dominant erosional agent
i. Abrasion, deflation → Yardangs, dunes, loess much larger compared to rills /
gullies

3. Furthermore, erosion by water can only occur after weathering → Secondary process to
weathering as the dominant process
a. Weathering: Break down rocks in situ
i. Weathering must occur before erosion by water in karst, fluvial landscapes
(rills, gullies is erosion on soil, soil is produced by weathering)
