M1 – Explain how managing human, physical and technological
resources can improve the performance of a selected organisation.
The human resources can improve Tesco’s performance in two main
methods which are to employ the right people when recruiting;
those that maintain high standards, so that high performance leads
in the organisation leads to success and then being able to apply it
to their tasks at work.
Human resources such as the employees will need to be dealt with
in the most effective ways when they make errors so that the
employee and their manager do not get offended with one another.
When Tesco are recruiting they will look at their employability and
personal skills to see whether they are capable to have more than
one position in the organisation which will make the performance of
Tesco more efficient.
Tesco monitor their employees and let them know when they are
doing well and praise their hard work which motivates them to
maintain the standard. There are a few ways to monitor their
employees’ performance such as keeping a record and looking at
figures to see whether their performance is increasing or decreasing
or ensure that employees are meeting their targets and set new
ones for them to work to which gives them direction.
To make sure that Tesco run smoothly, the employees should know
the organisation’s background so they know where they are heading
in terms of performance and success. Tesco’s Human Resources
department will ensure that their employees are doing what was
stated in their contract of employment and make sure that they are
not slacking.
Physical resources are tangible assets such as the building,
premises, machinery, etc. Tesco will need premises to run a store
from in order to sell their products to their customers. If Tesco have
standard clean premises then their employees will be happy to work
whereas if it was unclean and filthy then the employees wouldn’t
want to work there.
Physical resources are important, for example, when customers
come to shop in Tesco they expect the layout of the store to be easy
to get around because if it is a big Tesco store then they would want
signs around the store notifying them where different products are
kept in which parts of the store.
