Book review questions (each question should be answered in between 75 - 100
words).

Title of the book: unspeakable
Name: Marit van der Tuin
Klas: NH4G

1 What is the connection between the title and the book? Explain in detail with
examples from the book. How does the title relate to the main character/s?
The title of the book is unspeakable, the main character of the book is Megan and she
doesn’t speak since Hana died. The reason therefore is that Megan keeps a secret about
Hana’s dead. By not talking, she hopes no one will ever find out what happened when
Hana died. When Megan rescue Jasmine, she talks to Jasmine for the first time since
months. Since then she talks sometimes to Jasmine when no one else is with them.

2 Characterization: What kind of person is/are the main character/s? In what ways
does that become clear to you as a reader? Explain with examples from the book.
Megan is a girl, she isn’t popular. She is bullied at school, because she does not talk she
cannot stand up for herself. She felt very guilty about Hana’s dead, because she things it
was her fault. She fell in love Jasmine. She and her friend Luke agreed never to tell what
caused Hana to die. Megan loves photographing with the old camera from her grandpa.

3 Who is your favourite character in the book and why? Explain with details of what
he/she is saying / doing in the book.
My favourite character is Jasmine because she is a very good friend for Megan. She
understand Megan without knowing why Megan isn't talking. She doesn’t care that
Megan doesn’t speak. Megan started with talking again through Jasmine. Jasmine is
bubbly and talkative. When she can't escape a forest fire she is rescued by Megan. She
fell in love with a boy named Owen, he's not as nice as she thought, so she breaks up. At
the end of the book she fell in love with Megan.

4 Development: In what ways does the main character change or develop during the
story? How do you notice that as a reader? Give detailed examples from the book.
In the begin of the story she don’t want to talk to anyone, she hates herself and won’t be
friends with Jasmin. Because she is afraid she ruined Jasmines life. In the middle of the
story she fell in love with Jasmin, but Jasmin is in love with Owen. Megan don’t like
Owen, she is happy when they break up. At the end of the story she will tell Jasmine the
real story about how Hana died. Jasmine is very shocked by the story and walks away.
Jasmine is lured into a trap by Luke, Megan finds out that Luke has sent all those threats
to Jasmin. Megan rescues Jasmine, Megan finds out she didn’t frayed the rope. She has no
secrets anymore, she is talking again.
5 Conflict: What is the most important emotional conflict that the main character
becomes involved in? How does the writer end the conflict? Explain.
I think the moment that Luke turns crazy and almost kill Jasmine, Megan learns the truth
of Hana's death. And luckily, together with Sadie, they prevent Luke from committing
suicide. After the conflict Jasmine isn’t mad anymore on Megan. Together with Megan
and Megan’s family they go on vacation to Cyprus. Megan also got the last letter from
Hana back from Sadie. In it Hana says that she regrets the fight and that they will be
friends forever. Megan writes her last letter to Hana, in it she say that she will miss her
