1 What is the connection between the title and the book? Explain in detail with
examples from the book. How does the title relate to the main character/s?
The title of the book is divergent, the main character is divergent that means that the test
showed that Beatrice fits multiple factions. She fits in the factions erudite, dauntless and
abnegation. It is very dangerous to be a divergent, they try to detect all the divergents because
the simulation serum doesn’t work for the divergents. They can ruin erudite's plan wage war
with abnegation. Her mom Natalie and Tobias are also divergents.
2 Characterization: What kind of person is/are the main character/s? In what ways
does that become clear to you as a reader? Explain with examples from the book.
Beatrice is from the faction abnegation. It’s difficult to make a choice for her because she don’t
want to leave her parents but she doesn't want to stay in abnegation because she don’t feel
fine in abnegation. She chooses for dauntless because she has always been fascinated by them.
In the faction Dauntless she call herself Tris. In the beginning Tris is very insecure about
herself and the faction she choose. But when she find her confidence in Dauntless, she’s sure
that she choose right faction. She fell in love with four and they help each other when erudite
use Dauntless to start a war against abnegation. In the end of the book Tris and four manage
to stop the simulation of the soldiers with the help of Caleb, Marcus, Peter, her mom and her
dad.
3 Who is your favourite character in the book and why? Explain with details of what
he/she is saying / doing in the book.
My favorite character is four (Tobias) because he is very mysterious, tough, cruel and
unbelievably stubborn. But he can also be gentle and sensitive. Tobias his nickname is four
because he has 4 fears one of which is fear of heights. He grew up in the faction Abnegation,
he chose two years ago for the faction Dauntless. When he was a young his mother died,
Marcus his father abused him. Therefore he left the faction abnegation and went to the faction
Dauntless. He has to train the transfers, tris is one of these transfers.
4 Development: In what ways does the main character change or develop during the
story? How do you notice that as a reader? Give detailed examples from the book.
At the beginning she is very insecure and she has no idea which faction she has to choose. She
is the weakest of the group and she is in one of the last places in the ranking. She trains and
get better, she has other qualities like the personality test and the simulation. Eventually she
end up in the top ten of transfers. She can stay in the faction Dauntless. In the end of the book
she is determined and she does everything to stop the simulation in which the soldiers are.
she doesn’t even hesitate to shoot other people to save the people from abnegation. In the end
of the book she manage to stop the simulation.
5 Conflict: What is the most important emotional conflict that the main character
becomes involved in? How does the writer end the conflict? Explain.
I think the most emotional conflict is when Tobias get a serum which make him sees his
enemies as his friends and his friends like his enemies. When Tris come in the control room
Tobias didn’t recognize her through the serum. He fight against her and tris is going to lose.
He want to kill her but then the serum ends. Then Tobias and Tris destroy the data so the
