Anti Platelet Drugs
What are the 3 mechanisms of Haemostasis?
Humoral - clotting factors
Cellular - platelets
Blood vessels - vasoconstriction
What’s the normal value of platelets?
159-450 x10^9\L
Anuclear
What are the 2 types of thrombosis?
Platelets - arterial thrombosis, treated with aspirin and anti platelets
Coagulation - venous thrombosis, treated with warfarin and anticoagulants
Describe the actions of platelets
Adhesion - stick to damaged tissue, sub endothelial collagen
Shape change - patch up damaged tissue
Release Reaction - stored mediators from granules, Dense granules(ADP, ATP),
alpha granules(fibrinogen)
Aggregation - fibrinogen cross links
Promote coagulation - surface phosphatidyserine, thrombin generation
How is the effectiveness of platelets measured?
Optical aggregometry - amount of light that travels thru the reactive solution
How does fibrinogen interact with platelets?
Fibrinogen has a high affinity with integrin AB on platelet surface when the
platelets are activated
This causes agggregation and forms a thrombus
What can activate platelets?
Collagen
ADP
