6.14 – Kinetische kunstVanaf 1960
Ze hebben een anti-machine, zo genoemd omdat ze geen functie hebben. Het is
aangedreven door motoren, natuurkrachten als wind of water, de mens of magneten. Het
doel is om geluid te maken of het feit dat ze kunnen bewegen. Lucht en wind spelen een
grote rol.
Jeang Tinguely gaat met afdankertjes en afval aan de slag om
bewegende kunst te maken. Voor hem was wat kinderen
vinden belangrijk, ouderen denken namelijk alleen maar in
geld. Projecties, schaduwen van sculptuur en ritmische
bewegende machineonderdelen worden één geheel. Alles in
deze machine beweegt langzaam, behalve michelinman. Wat
hier gebeurt, staat in groot contrast met een formule 1-race,
waarin alles zo snel en zo precies mogelijk plaatsvindt.
Traditioneel gezien is de meeste figuratieve kunst gericht op het ‘verstillen’ van tijd.
Kinetische kunst is een manier om kunst te maken.
Theo Jansen denkt na over de ruimte waar hij zijn kunst zet. Hij staat bekend om beesten,
die over het strand ‘lopen’, aangedreven worden door de
wind. Achtergrond als natuurkundige komt goed van pas
hierbij. Hij maakt gebruik van pvc-buizen, die hol en licht
zijn. Ook zijn de buizen buigzaam. Dankzij deze
materiaaleigenschappen is het beest bestand tegen de
grote kracht die de wind erop uitoefent en is het licht
genoeg om in beweging te kunnen komen. Jansen is een
hedendaagse kunstenaar, en nog steeds actief.
