4D:Storing and
Communicating
Information in
a laboratory

, As a lab technician, I working in the development department for a pharmaceutical
company that develops and produces drugs . I will produce a report that will evaluate
the challenges that we face when storing and communicating the range of
information recorded and processed with the laboratory I will then compare the
system in the development laboratory to those in a company’s manufacturing
department.

Keeping record is an important this is because it allows the company to keep track of
many things like clear record of income, expenses and tax document. Another reason
why it’s important to keep records of information is because it controls the
organisations and keeps them efficient, it also trouble shoots certain problem and for
a lab it’s important to keep record is because they would want to keep track and
evidence of experimental evidence. There are 2 main ways to keep record:
1. Handwritten
- Labelling samples
- Booking details
- Lab notebooks
- Checklists
- Spread sheet
2. Electronic
- Video records
- Sound record
- Camera
- Computer folders
- Special software

Here are the types of data that should be recorded:
- COSHH records: these records are recorded to make sure that the company
and the employee is aware about health and safety issues. Only some people
have access to these records like technicians and anyone that is involved with
storing.
- Scientific data: these are vital files and these are usually accessed by head of
department.
- Scientific apparatus: these includes data like dates of equipment purchase.
These are accessed by head of departments and these need to authorised by
them before any purchase is done.
- Training records: this is for employees and it gives us information on how
much qualification the staff has. These are records are accessed by training
officers and supervisors and the human resource department.
- Security: there different types of security in different departments this is
differentiated by the type of work they carry out. security is accessed by head
of department, security staff and health and safety officers.
- Management: this is the management hierarchy and the roles they include.
Management is accessed by the organisation management and human
recourses department.

There are different types of information that is used in the organisation:
1. Customer details:
- this is contact details
- the order history of the customer
2. product details
