La novela desde 1939 hasta 1970
La guerra civil supuso un profundo corte en la evolución literaria por la muerte de algunos
grandes modelos y el exilio obligado de otros, además de esto, las circunstancias políticas y la
censura impiden que se siga con la tendencia de novela de corte. Esas mismas circunstancias
hacen que pierda sentido otras muchas tendencias anteriores a la guerra.

LA NOVELA EN LA SEGUNDA MITAD DEL SIGLO XX.
➔ La novela en la inmediata posguerra: novela falangista y triunfalista.
➔ Novela existencialista (1942-1954). Tremendismo, narración realista de los problemas
existenciales.
➔ Novela de realismo social (1954-1962). Narración realista y objetiva que intenta dar
testimonio crítico de la realidad social con actitud de denuncia.
➔ La renovación narrativa y experimentalista (1962-1975). Renovación técnica y estructural
con contenidos críticos y realistas.

PERIODIZACIÓN DE LA NOVELA TRAS LA GUERRA CIVIL.
Podemos distinguir 3 etapas:
1. Generación del 36, autores que se dan a conocer durante la guerra civil.
2. Generación del 50, novelistas que comienzan a publicar en torno a 1950.
3. Generación del 68, autores que aparecen tras la década de los 60.

LA NOVELA EN LA INMEDIATA POSGUERRA.
Surge una novela triunfalista que defiende los valores tradicionales y justifica la guerra civil. Son
novelistas del imperio, jóvenes falangistas, vencedores de la guerra. Aparece Jose Mª Gironella.

LA NOVELA EXISTENCIALISTA DE 1940. TREMENDISMO.
Aparece una visión crítica de la realidad: La familia de Pascual Duarte y Nada. Su importancia
reside en la ruptura con la literatura oficial, estas novelas reflejan el tema de la angustia
existencial, la tristeza y la frustración de las vidas cotidianas. Los personajes son seres
marginados, angustiados y desarraigados.
Las causas de esta amargura se encuentran en la sociedad de la España de los años 40, marcada
por pobreza, violencia y persecución política. En estas novelas no encontraremos una crítica o
denuncia directa.

La familia de Pascual Duarte inaugura una corriente literaria denominada tremendismo, que
profundiza en los aspectos más crudos de la realidad. Destaca Miguel Delibes.

En la familia de Pascual Duarte asistimos al relato en primera persona de un mozo condenado a
muerte, el final trágico del protagonista combina el existencialismo y la acusación social.
