Assignment
I am interested in a legal career as it provides me with an opportunity to defend justice. It lies
behind or regulates every aspect of society, furthermore law is broad subject. The legal
system has created hundred of legal career options that serve a variety of core and non-core
legal function. This further gives me the advantage of exploring and experimenting with
different topics and type of legal perspectives. The legal professional role is expanding and
evolving therefore developing a challenging and competitive environment that I want to
explore. Having done work experience gave me a great insight into the legal profession.
I have not only investigated the practical side of Law but also the theoretical. I am currently
reading through various supporting texts which would enhance my knowledge regarding the
legal profession. I have read Glanville Williams' 'Learning the Law' which examines many
issues facing a law student during LLB, it provides a clear introduction to the methods and
skills used in law, including case studies, interpreting acts techniques, undertaking legal
research, taking part in mock trials, and preparing for exams. What I found most useful was
that this book introduces legal problems and describes how best to tackle them. Another book
that fascinated me was Helena Kennedy's 'Eve was Framed' which comments on women and
British Justice. It illustrates the problem facing women within the legal system. The book
contained personal criticism of the legal system and the treatment towards women in court.
However the inequities that were revelled could be applied equally to any disadvantaged
group, to those whose cases are subtly affected by race, class poverty or politics. This book
was a great read as it opened my eyes to the inequalities within the justice system.
