TRENDS-
New Destinations
Destinations are something in the travel and tourism sector that are very important to
allowing for the businesses to grow. Destinations such as new destinations will help to catch
a traveller’s attention which will make them want to spend money in the tourism sector to
get them to that destination. As there has been a rise in population for newer destinations,
this has allowed for a positive effect on the tourism businesses such as airlines,
accommodation or attractions. One of the newer destinations that has been gaining
popularity is Islamabad in Pakistan which has shown to have begun growing as a popular
destination within the 2000s to now. Pakistan has shown to have around 1.9 million tourists
visiting it per year since 2018 which has shown that it has had an increase in 30% of tourists.
It has seen a large increase in tourism as Islamabad has proven to have many popular
tourist’s attractions which have helped to increase the amount of interest that is given by
the tourists.
Islamabad has seen an increase of tourism because of their many natural landmarks that
have and unique attraction to them and even have attractions based on landscape which
has been popular within the tourism industry. ‘Daman-e-KoH’ is one of its many landscape
based attractions which has a lookout scenic route and a garden at the lookout point. There
is also the Highest Trade Route in the world which is located in Islamabad, having attractions
which are the best out of all attractions like it are more likely to attract tourism as they will
want to have experienced it. Islamabad also has many museums and mosques which have a
unique design to them.
As Islamabad is the capital of Pakistan, this means that it attracts most of the tourists and
has a lot of travel sectors around there such as accommodation and transport which has
been increased by 5% over the last 5 years because of the number of attractions located in
Islamabad. As there is only around 1 million people located in this area, this is a big increase
indicating that the interest in Islamabad has helped to attract more tourism to them. Being a
hot destination, Islamabad also attracts tourists that are looking for a tropical holiday. Most
holidays will be based on the temperature of a destination which is what helps to make
newer destinations popular. As it gets to around 30C in Islamabad, this will mean that more
tourists will be interested in getting out and about to go see the many attractions that
Islamabad will have.
Adventure travel
Adventure travel is a type of holiday which people who are interested in unique and exciting
destinations will want to plan for. Adventure holidays focus on a traveller’s interests such as
biking which will have many holidays surrounding it. These types of holidays are normally
tailored to a person needs in a holiday and will focus on the level of holiday that they will
normally associate as being in their interest. There are businesses such as ‘Exodus’ which
have focused their holidays mainly on adventure holidays and have them available at
different levels of difficultly for beginners and the more experience traveller’s. It is a type of
travelling which has allowed for tourists to bring themselves closer to their passions and to
give them a chance to challenge themselves in where their interest lie. It has been proven
that taking unknown risks has helped tourists to enjoy their holiday even more. This has
, been one of the main reasons why there have been an increase in its popularity. Over the
years, adventure travel has seen a quick increase in popularity over the last four years.
As more people have been becoming more interested in travel that involves mountain
climbing or a fully bike based holiday, the numbers have seen an increase in 98% from 2019
to 2020 showing that tourists are quickly starting to gain interest in these type of holidays.
Every year it has been seen that around 100 million people travel to other countries just to
be able to go on an adventure holiday. This really helps to show that adventure travel has
being trending for a few years. As most adventure holidays are outdoors, people have
started to take more of an interest in the outdoors and enjoy the experiences they get. It
has shown that around £2 billion is made a year from adventure travel showing that the
popularity of adventure travel has started to become a main part of the travel and tourism
sector.
Independent travel
Independent travel is a form of travel that has started to see an increase in popularity over
the years as more and more people want to have their own unique holiday which they can
organise without having to share it with other people. Independent travel involves people
booking their holidays on their own online and to their individual liking. The freedom to be
able to organise a persons own holiday allowed for tourists be able to choose the pace of
their holiday and when they would like to book it. The only issue with independent travel is
that there is less cover from insurance on parts of their holiday. Things that cause parts of
the planned destination to be altered may mean that the tourist is less likely to get their
money back as they would be less covered. This however has not stopped the increased
popularity in independent travel which has seen a big increase in popularity. Facts show that
it has seen an increase by 150%, mostly in Britain which shows high evidence that
independent travel is quickly gaining popularity.
The popularity of independent travel has been continuing to rise and has only shown small
drops in numbers which was quickly overcome with the increasing rates which is shown in
fig 1.

The reason that independent travel has seen such an increase is because of the presence of
the internet. The internet has allowed for people to do their own research on holidays and
have the ability to book their own holidays to their liking without having to visit an agent.
