Assignment title 18.2 Designing, creating and populating a relational database

Assignment brief
Scenario
The next part of your teaching practice is to provide an example of a working relational database. You will
have to provide several examples of evidence showing the processes from design to populating your
database.
For the purpose of this assignment you can choose either
 an example database of a travel company arranging everything from Grand Prix tickets to
hotel bookings for a motor racing F1 fan
OR an example database for a local gymnasium/health club with membership details and records of
all activities/facilities used
You will have to provide data to be used in a mail merge letter to send to either the motor racing
fan or the member of the health club.
Task 1 – P2
 Considering the information you provided for the game in Assignment 18.1 decide what
entities you intend to implement and normalise for your chosen database example. You
are expected to need five related entities.
 Document the relationships, table structures, fields and properties.
 Check with your tutor and get this signed off before proceeding to the next task. Modify
as necessary and implement your design.
Task 2
 Using the information provided, design and implement suitable data entry forms for the
capturing of the information incorporating features to ensure the validity and integrity of
data.
 You must include at least three of the following techniques within the set of data entry
forms:
o Validation routine
o Verification routine
o Input masking
o Check for completeness
o Visual prompts
o Data consistency
o Check for data redundancy

, Drop-down/combo boxes. P3, P4
 Enter sufficient data into the system. At least some of the data should be imported
from an external source that will be provided for you. M2

Task 3-P5
Devise at least 3 queries that respond to the requirements identified using multiple tables and
multiple criteria.
