,Introduction:
In this assignment I will identify different types of communication devices, I will also describe data
elements and signal theory, I will cover the uses and the importance of them both. Furthermore I
will describe different transmission methods and were the particular methods are used. Finally I will
compare two types of different transmission methods two wired methods and two wireless
methods. I am a trainee for a company that offers networking and communications services to small
businesses in Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire. The company has been invited to participate in a small
business event, and I have been asked to provide posters, leaflets, and a PowerPoint presentation
for the event.

P3 - Identify different types of
communication devices Communication devices are devices that are used to send information from
one party to another. Communication devices can come as wireless devices
such as laptops and wired devices such as telephones. There are many
devices that can be used to communicate in the present day. The devices
make communicating with others a lot easier as you do not have to see people
face to face any more you could either use a telephone to call one another or
use a laptop to send emails to one another. Not all communication devices
have the same role they do not all communicate the same type of information
for example a router is not used to make phone calls however it is still
considered a communication device as it communicates the internet to your
devices that you have connected to the internet. communication devices are
useful to small businesses as they allow them to improve customer services as
they will be able to communicate with one another and with customers to
answer each other’s enquires this will allow a smooth running of the business.

DTE: data terminal equipment is an end-to-end instrument that transforms
user information into signals or converts received signals. It is also known as
trial circuits. A data terminal equipment device would communicate with a
data circuit-terminating equipment. A DTE is a running unit of a data station
which serves as a data source or a data platform and which ensures that the
data transmission control feature in line with the link protocol is executed. An
example of a DTE device would be computers, printers routers etc. DTE is a
wireless type of communication so it does not need any wire to communicate
with a data circuit-terminating equipment. The DTE will be beneficial for small
businesses as they may want to print out important document and they will
definitely require a router so I will recommend all small businesses to have a
DTE.

DCE: data circuit-terminating equipment is a device that sits between the data
terminal equipment and a data transmission circuit. The DCE can be called
many names such as data communication equipment and data carrier
equipment. The DTE and DCE are both different devices as they both have
different roles the DTE is usually used as the terminal and the DCE is normally
used as a modem. A DCE provides a back and forth connection for the DTE into
a communication server. It can also provide clocking for a circuit. An example
of how a DCE works would be for instant if a telephone lines are the
communication media the DCE will be used as a modem and when the lines
are digital the DCE will be used as either a channel service unit or a data
service unit. So it can be used for both wireless and wired forms of
communication.

Laptop: a laptop is a portable device that is used for many reasons. It can be used to
surf the internet. It will get an internet connection from a router allowing you to
freely surf the internet. A laptop can be used as a communication device as you have
to ability to send emails to one another. Laptops communicate with LANs and WANs.
This communication is required so the user can access the internet and further
communicate with others. The laptop is a wireless form of communication as it does
not need to constantly be attached to a wire however when the battery is low you
will have to charge via a wired charger. A small business require good laptops for
there employees as it will allow them to work efficiently from home, if they are
unable to work from the office. This will keep the business consistent

Routers: A router gets data from computer networks and transfers it there. Often
routers are mistaken for network hubs, modems, or network transfer. Routers can
however, combine and attach to the functions of these components, boost Internet
connectivity or construct business networks with them. Traffic directing functions on
the Internet are performed by routers. Data distributed through the Internet is in the
form of datasets like a web page or an email. Routers are considered a
communication device as they communicate with the internet and the devices that
are connected to the internet. It works by A cable that links a wireless router directly
to a modem. It enables information to be received from — and to be transmitted to
— the internet. The router then uses incorporated antennas to build and connect
with your home Wi-Fi network. This provides internet connectivity to all the smart
devices on your home network. A router is a wireless form of communication. A
small businesses will require a router as it will provide them with a internet
connection so they will be able to surf the internet properly I will advice small
businesses to invest in a good router so they can surf the internet with ease.

GPRS: GPRS stand for general packet radio service it is a packet orientated mobile
data standard it is used for the 2G and 3G cellular communication network's global
system for mobile communications. It is classed as a packet switch network where
the radio resources are used only when users are sending or receiving data. As a
result the available radio resources can be concurrently shared between several
users. The GPRS is a wireless communication device as it allows 2G, 3G and WCDMA
mobile networks to transmit IP packets to external networks such as the Internet. as
2G and 3G is out dated I will not recommend the GPRS for a small businesses

Netbook: A netbook is a smaller low performance laptop that was created in 2007. A
netbook is still able to be used as a work processor, it allows a wireless connection to
the internet and allows the running of a web browser. A netbook communicates a
netbook is also another wireless communication device as it supports an internet
connection via a high-speed ethernet or WI-FI. I will not recommend a netbook to a
small businesses as the employees will not be able to work as efficiently thus the
business will fail rather than succeed.

Mobile phone: A mobile phone is a portable telephone. It has the same purpose as a
telephone but the difference is that it is wireless. As it uses radio frequency link while
the user is moving within a telephone service area. The mobile phone is used to
make and receive calls thus making it a wireless communication device mobile
phones and telephones have both been outdated by the smart phone as the smart
phones allows a connection to the internet whereas the mobile and telephone do
not.
