How the function areas work together
The functional areas in Tesco work on their own and with other functional areas
within Tesco. I have a situation that different departments would need to work
together to solve them, the first one is: if Tesco has an aim to bring out a new
product and Tesco wants it tested by potential customers.
The human resources department would first ask for employee’s who have the
potential skills and are more than capable to create the new product.
The marketing functional area are the designers new products and when they a
satisfied with what they have designed they give the plans to the production
department for them to create. When the product has been finished the
production department would then give the product back to the marketing
department for an evaluation, after the evaluation is completed the marketing
department would then give them areas of improvements to the production
department, this will happen till the product is completely safe. When the
product is completely safe Tesco would send out a test pack of their new product
with a questionnaire or a survey attached to it. After the testing of the product if
the results comes back as positive, the product would then be sold in Tesco, the
marketing department would then advertise the new product, the marketing and
sales functional area would then sell the product to customers.
The finance department would just control the prices of the new product. They
make sure the price of the new product is at a reasonable amount which
customers would feel satisfied with which could lead to them to buying it
Another example
If the marketing team spot an increase in a type of food that customers are
buying but Tesco do not currently stock. The first step would be to inform the
finance team to determine whether there is money available to buy this new
product. Then operations team will order an amount of that product and it will be
delivered to the stores. The stores will determine where to stock the product
using ICT. Then lastly if the marketing team feel that the product could be
promoted using banners in store and contact the finance team to see if funds are
available for this.
