Het boek speelt zich af in Breslau (Zuid/west Polen). De ruimte speelt niet zon belangrijke rol in het
verhaal. Het had net zo goed een andere plaats kunnen zijn. Wel een plaats in Oost- Europa die ook
aan het water ligt. Want het speelt zich af in een land waar oorlog een grote rol speelt. Het draait om
de oorlog.

In het verhaal zijn geen hoofdstukken. Het boek heeft een cyclische opbouw
Wel zijn er drie gedeeltes die je kunt onderscheiden:
1. Het eerste deel is het moment dat de ik figuur het huis binnen gaat.
2. Het tweede deel, het moment wanneer de ik figuurt het huis verlaat
3. Het derde deel, vertelt over de misdragingen van de partizanen in het huis

Wij vonden het boek wel interessant omdat het over de oorlog gaat en dat is wel een erg interessant
onderwerp. Ook was er veel spanning, en je weet niet wat je te wachten staat. Waardoor je graag
door wilt lezen en het boek dus sneller uit hebt. Ook was het mooi dat het uit de ik persoon was
beschreven, hierdoor wordt je helemaal mee genomen in het verhaal. Wel was het een moeilijk boek
met moeilijke taal, waardoor het wat moeilijker was te begrijpen.
