This psychological report will take the form of an investigation into the benefits of relation. It
is likely that relaxation is formed through instruction. However, it is also possible that
relaxation can be affirmed through exercise. There will be an experimental group, which
involves a control group to help with the analysis, related to the Analysis of Variance
statistical observation. The aim is to compare the findings with those who might have
exercised, compared to those who have exercised as part of the experiment or specified
activity. Gahye & Lillyman (2000).
Introduction
I have taken a psychological perspective that the concept of exercise can become
controversial. This is due to the cognitive processes involved to ensure this is done
effectively. People may think of exercise initially, then would progress onto performing
productive exercise. This person could be defined as having a good level of cognition. It may
also mean that they have an effective method of cognition. Gould, et. al., (1993).
Through conversations with people, I have found that there are people, who can think about
something, then eventually follow through with the associated activity. This is interesting
when observing somebody’s cognitive process. There are also people who plan their next
actions through cognition. The process can be step-by-step or blow by blow processing
within cognition. This form of mental processing can be linked to how people eventually
exercise.
People many different processes for how they are going to execute an exercise regime or
activity. However, I will need to investigate whether relaxation needs a specific form of
exercise. A person walking up 4 to 6 flights of stairs could go either way in confirming with
themselves or their neighbour that they have exercised. Knowles & Gilbourne (2010).
A person could argue that walking though the town centre 2-4 hours per day is exercise.
However, this is more likely to be accepted. However, there are underlying factors, such as
the health, wellbeing and exercise experience the person might have. I have found that it is
also important for people to be careful not to over-exercise. For example, a person could have
conditions that could enter-into complications, especially if they do not hydrate during the
exercise regime. It is also important for people to assess any risks if they decide to do an
exercise they are not used to. Hatze, H. (1998). Exercise can prevent the contraction of
disease. Therefore, there are many health considerations for carrying out regular exercise. For
example, a person can exercise to enable enhanced cardiovascular health. People could even
exercise to help their respiratory system. Therefore, this is a method to help breathing
capacity and health. Breathing exercises are a known way to help blood circulation.

Hence, exercise can help with stress relief, then relaxation happens. It would be a good idea
to consider how exercise is maintained. Nutrition is an important factor of exercise. A person
needs to ensure that they, eat according to health and wellbeing standards. For example, a
person would be advised to eat more carbohydrates, if they lose weight easily. Therefore,
even people who lose weight easily need to maintain a good exercise regime. The need for
exercise is not always with the intention of wanting to lose weight. A person who is slim has
a chance of being healthier than a person who is overweight. But the slim person would find
it difficult to recover from cold weather diseases. They are also more likely to become ill if
they are in the cold environment. For example, leaving a window open in the middle of
winter at home could cause the slim person to get a dangerous cold, which could lead to
Pneumonia. Hodgson, et al., (2005).
It is also a good idea for a person to let their doctor know if they want to make exercise a
regular occurrence in their life. A lot of the time GPs would recommend exercise. This could
also contribute towards relaxation I have observed that there are needs that a person could
want to fulfil, especially if it is available. If a person needs a coach to help them through their
exercise regime it is likely that they would want to fulfil this.
GP’s can involve themselves through reviewing the progress of the patient. The patient could
be prescribed with something to balance their formation through exercise. I have noticed that
exercise must be suitable for the person. This is because each person might have a different
threshold to exercise. For example, a retired person +70 years old might not be suitable for
heavy weightlifting or bench press. However, there are a group of retired people who would
probably be alright with carrying out weight training, g. The level of weights used would
probably need to be monitored in this case. Jones & Lees (2003).
Part of carrying out this experiment is to compare exercise with relaxation. The control group
are the people who have whether they have exercised or not. I have learned that professional
or non-professional sports people are likely to be healthier. It does not mean &population of
people are likely to be physically healthier through the exercise it requires. This Is also in
conjunction with those who eat fast food and could be obese. The people not in involved in
regular exercise are likely not to be as healthy. However, this depends on whether they are
doing the correct exercise. However, I will continue to highlight that through observing
athletes that they could be more relaxed than others. This is also considering the pressure they
have as they could be treated as any other celebrity.
It is important that the persons state of mental health as well as physical health is assessed
before they carry out an experiment. Therefore, we also need to assess whether the person has
any health conditions that might interfere with the skew of the results we intend to analyse. It
would be a good idea to enquire about demographics of the person carrying out the test. This
includes using similar tactics that the local government would in their census surveys.
Therefore, finding out the occupation, medical history, education, including the area they live
will help to understand any answers. Izquierdo, et.al., (2002).
Although we want to know relaxation as a cause of exercise it would be a good idea to
establish how participants will respond to any questions in the experiment. Therefore, we are
trying to establish whether we have made ethical considerations.
I think a variable to consider will be age and gender. Results from testing could depend on
statistical results with regards to whether the person is male or female. Also, it would be
important to understand whether a person is older, middle aged or younger. The reaction to
the experiment may be alternate. However, it also depends on the depth of the experiment. It

is possible that the answers may not be skewed as we are focussing on general relation.
Knowles, et al., (2005).
Hypotheses
H1: Does exercise cause Relaxation?
H2: Does demographics affect the response of relation
H0: Relaxation is just a result of an instruction
Methods
Design
The experimental design will be analysed with the use of a one-way ANOVA. The
control Group is an independent variable
Relaxation is a dependent variable
Exercise is an independent variable
The design of the experiment will encompass that there is 3+ variables to be considered. It is
likely that age and gender be dependent variable that could make a difference. However, I am
not looking for a significant difference now. But may consider this in future research.
Participants
There is a total of 30 participants, including the control. The all the participants will have
been assessed in terms of their fitness for the experiment. This should be leaning towards the
relevant ethical considerations. The ethics will include consent for the experiment to be
carried out. The ethics could be as delicate as to whether the experiment would cause harm or
distress. This will be applied for all participants, including the control group.
Procedure
The process for the experiment will be to apply the relevant ethical considerations. This
includes taking into consideration that they are medically fit enough to take part in the
experiment. However, medical suitability is not necessary for the control group. It is also the
case that the experiment does not have the likelihood that it will cause harm however, ethics
will be considered anyway. We might decide to cover all ethics to make sure.

We might carry out a pilot scheme to test whether participants are at risk of harm. Therefore,
we will carry out an experiment on 1 man and 1 woman to establish this. This is because
thinking of additional variables such as age and gender that could be considered.
Results
Below are figures that show the percentage of reliability of the statistics. This will also be
analysed and discussed further.

Control
The statistics below indicate that when the control group is coupled with the experimental
variables it is 100% positive each. This is when remaining within conditions in the ANOVA.
Therefore, it seems that the data is reliable. The hypotheses are likely to be positive where
further analysis of statistics is carried out.
The table below shows the descriptive statistics for the statistics that will be analysed.
