The person who is doing the experiment is trying to find out how the hydrogen peroxide
concentration influences the volume of oxygen produced by a potato. An enzyme that is
given off during this experiment called catalyse and its jobs is to convert hydrogen peroxide
to water and oxygen. The person who is doing the experiment will see oxygen bubbles
which is given off. The potato which wants to break down the hydrogen peroxide is broken
down by the enzyme called catalyse which is why it is also very important for the potato and
the other reason why it is important is that it is used as a biological catalyst.

Weighing
Experiment
, 1.) 1 gram of potatoes is measured using a spatula and weighing boat using a weighing
scale and then it is transferred to the boiling tube.
2.) 250ml Water is added to separate test tube. Then you put this test tube with the
water which you added into a beaker of water.
3.) One end of the delivery tube is placed into the test tube with the other end attached
to the bung of the boiling tube.
4.) Measure out 5cm3 hydrogen peroxide solution and this you add it into the boiling
tube where there is the 1 gram of potato.
5.) Once the hydrogen peroxide is added to the boiling tube after it the rubber bung is
attached to the delivery tube and stopwatch is started immediately after this.
6.) The volume of gas which is released is used to measure 45 seconds for every 5
minutes.
7.) The experiment is repeated three time using 3 times

First set of results

Second set of results
Number of grams Time Volume of gas
2 grams 2 mins 16 bubbles
4 grams 2 mins 31 bubbles
6 grams 2 mins 48 bubbles
