Section of the report: Findings/ Analysis:
The part in a report where data is presented and analyzed.
Use paragraphs within section to cover one aspect of the subject
each time.
Include graphs and visual materials if needed for the reader to
understand the subject matter.
Move from descriptive to analytical. The analysis should contain
sufficient information to justify the upcoming conclusions.
Recommendations and information should only be included if it
is important to the understanding of the report.
For longer reports, findings should be presented in a different
section from the analysis.
Tables
Number and describe the table in Bold, above the table (Table 1)
and right below, the title.
If table or figure is already existing, add the “adapted from…”
behind the description.
Notes are added underneath.
Transitions or Linking
They are the roadmap for the reader, shows that you move from
one topic to the next.
They occur in different places in reports, between and inside
paragraphs and sections.
Between sections, are common sentences (in this section, it has
been explained that… In the next section…)
Between paragraph, they highlight the relationship between two
main ideas of each paragraph and can indicate contrast or
addition. Add a short sentence or two to the end or beginning of
each paragraph or to explicitly show how ideas relate to each other
Inside paragraphs, helps understanding what the upcoming
sentences are for. Can be used to add, explain, provide
examples, compare or contrast (However, therefore, yet, etc.)
