2. INTRODUCTION
The intention of this research proposal is to investigate the wave of violent
attacks which has rocked South African schools. It has been reported that the
both educators and learners are facing increasing levels of physical and
physiological violence. Violence in schools occurs in different forms and
intersects with violence occurring in a learner’s home and their broader
, community. Some learners experience violence during school hours, in after-
school programmes, and on their way to and from school (Lamb & Warton,
2017). Further, many learners experience violence online in the form
of cyberbullying (Burton & Leoschut, 2013). i am doing this research because
the effects of school violence on students are both physical and psychological
in nature. They range from injury to depression and contemplating suicide.
School violence can also impact learning. Students who experience fear at
school are likely to have difficulty concentrating on their education. In 2018
news24 reported that A North West high school pupil was arrested for
allegedly stabbing a 7-year-old Grade 1 pupil to death in Makapanstad on
November 20. The incident happened at the Dikeledi Makapan Primary
School which the Grade 1 pupil attended. It is alleged that the Grade 11 pupil,
17, stabbed the younger pupil multiple times after a fallout with the child's
older sister, with whom he apparently had a romantic relationship.
3. Problem statement and research question
Violence against learners and educators by some of the students is the main
problem in this research. school violence is a global problem that requires an
integrated approach where educators, parents and learners work together.
The study found that bullying, vandalism, gangsterism, indiscipline,
intolerance, and corporal punishment were the most prevalent forms of school
violence in schools.This problem should be researched in order to find out the
main influence of violence at school level, by doing this research we could find
more effects and solutions to violence at schools.

How can positive discipline and classroom management help to improve
violent attacks on school level?
