Werkdocument V5 English bookreport
Your report must be written in correct English, so use your knowledge of grammar
and idioms. Your report must meet the following requirements. Stick to the order
below and use the same numbers when you write the report. The book must be at
least 200 pages
1. Name the title of the book and the writer.
- Blood Loss, Alex Barclay
2. Give the name, the biographical data of the writer (date of birth and
possibly the date of death, nationality).
- Yve Williams, maiden name Yve Morris, writes under the name Alex Barclay.
She was born in Bayside, Dublin, Ireland in 1974.
3. Mention the first publication date of the book.
- First published in Great Britain in 2012
4. The number of pages of the book.
- The book has 376 pages
5. How long has it taken you to read it?
- I read the book in the classes when they still lasted a hour. When the classes
started to last forty-five minutes, we stopped reading in class because of the
timeframe but I finished the book by reading in the two week lasting break
from school.
6. Explain the title of the book and link between the book and the title.
The title of the book should always be between quotation marks
(aanhalingstekens) or printed in Italics (schuingedrukt),
i.e. ‘Animal Farm’ or Animal Farm
- The title of the book is ‘Blood Loss’. When I think about the relevance to the
book, I would say that the book is called ‘Blood Loss’ because of the fact that
multiple people died in the book. Your family is your own blood, so when for
example someone died in the book, it was a loss, so blood loss. Now after I
have read the book, I would not give the book this title. In my opinion it would
be something like ‘Look further than the obvious’.
7. Mention the setting: place, time and time span (How long does the story
take?)
- The story takes place in Denver, in present day. I’m not sure about the time
span of the book but it’s about an investigation so I imagine it takes a few
weeks to solve a case like that.
8. What is the genre of the book? Explain your choice. (look for information
on genre in your ‘opdrachtdocument’.
- ‘Blood Loss’ is a novel and the genre is thriller/crime.
