New Cutting Edge Advanced – An Evaluation
When evaluating the book “New Cutting Edge Advanced’ ’The chosen topic Globalisation is a very
interesting topic and an important topic, Visual aids are very eye catching which makes the lesson
interesting and fun, I love the fact that Exercises are challenging, it is clearly structured, Materials
are graded correctly ,There are activities that allow group/pair work as well as individual work
which to me is very important that any student learns the value of both working independently
and in a team. The topic is broad and the activities allow for students to learn as well as gain
knowledge on a lot of different topics such as cultures, different foods, currencies and language.
There are exercises on grammar, listening, reading, speaking and group discussions. Instructions
are very clear which will make it very easy for students to understand.
I love the fact that there are activities such as making a film teaching students about the use of
technology. Writing a report is an excellent activity and necessary skill to learn. The activities allow
for students to refer their everyday lifestyles to the topic which is an excellent idea to get them to
remember the lesson whenever they see those situations again, they will refer to the topic.
There is an audio pack which allows students to keep revising the topic whether at home on a road
trip or anywhere as it is convenient. The activities are fun and interesting and different which is
great because students won’t get bored even though it’s a lot of activities based on one topic.
Given the evaluation I would personally have no reservations in using this as a material for my
class. I would add some extra authentic materials such as interesting charts on currencies and
worksheets for them to remember currencies and use as revision as well but I think overall it is an
excellent book and I will definitely be using it as a guide for my students in my personal capacity.
