People, Planet, ProsperityHet begrip Triple P, People, Planet en Profit/Prosperity, maakt de drie belangrijkste
aandachtspunten van duurzame ontwikkeling duidelijk. De drie P’s zijn met elkaar
verbonden en moeten voor een duurzame ontwikkeling in balans zijn.
De eerste P, people, staat voor de mensen en hun levensbehoeften, zoals
onderwijs, gezondheid, vrijheid. Het gaat over bevolkingsgroei, mensenrechten en
culturele
waarden. De tweede P, planet, verwijst naar de natuur en milieu. Het
gaat over grondstoffen en natuurlijke hulpbronnen, klimaatverandering, biodiversiteit,
de kwaliteit van onze leefomgeving en natuurbescherming. De derde P, prosperity
staat voor alles wat met geld en de verdeling van welvaart te maken heeft. Het gaat
over economie, bestaanszekerheid van een bedrijf en de gelijke
verdeling van onze welvaart.
Donut economie
Die binnenste ring geeft het
minimum aan welvaart weer dat
we iedereen toewensen. Geen
armoede, genoeg drinkwater, een
goede gezondheidszorg, etc. Men
noemt dit het sociaal fundament.
Hier vallen dus ook de sociale
duurzaamheidsdoelen onder.
Binnen de binnenste ring van de
donut zitten dus de tekorten. De
buitenste ring noemt zij het
ecologisch plafond. Dat is de
grens die we niet mogen
overschrijden. Te grote groei of
‘onduurzaam’ leven kan leiden tot
het overschrijden van het
ecologisch plafond oftewel de
ecologische draagkracht van de
Aarde. Dan ontstaan er grote
problemen zoals
klimaatverandering en afname van biodiversiteit.
