De filosofie van de TA bestaat uit drie onderdelen:
1. Mensen zijn OK (ik ben OK, jij bent OK).
2. Ieder mens is in staat om te denken.
Wat je overkomt, heb je niet altijd in de hand, hoe je daarmee omgaat wel. Weet dat
je coachee kan denken en laat het denken dus aan hem/haar over.
3. Ieder mens is in staat om te veranderen.
Doordat je kan denken, kan ieder besluit worden herzien.
De theorie van de TA bestaat uit drie onderdelen:
1. Persoonlijkheidstheorie
Hoe functioneren mensen psychologisch
2. Communicatietheorie
Hoe communiceren mensen en hoe ontstaan communicatiestoringen.
3. Ontwikkelingspsychologische theorie
Hoe ontwikkelen mensen zich en hoe hebben beslissingen in de jeugd invloed op het
gedrag van latere leeftijd.
