, H1: Introduction to psychological assessment
Vroege experimentele psychologen als Wundt, Cattell en Gauss zijn begonnen
met het testen van cognitieve capaciteiten van mensen. Francis Galton wordt gezien als
de grondlegger van het mentaal testen omdat hij als eerste op enorme schaal
individuele verschillen heeft verzameld. Alfred Binet publiceerde in 1905 de eerste
intelligentietest waarmee academische prestaties voorspeld konden worden.
Nu wat termen:
standardized test: een test die uitgevoerd wordt op een standaard manier. Dat houdt in
dat de omstandigheden waarin de test wordt afgenomen en de manier waarop voor
iedereen hetzelfde is.
Measurement: een set regels voor het toewijzen van getallen aan objecten,
eigenschappen of gedragingen.
Assessment: een gestandaardiseerde procedure om informatie te verzamelen die
gebruikt kan worden om inferenties te maken over het gedrag van mensen.
(kanttekening: test, measurement en assessment worden in de praktijk door elkaar
gebruikt.
Reliability: betrouwbaarheid, de consistentie van je meting.
Validity: validiteit, de accuraatheid van je testscores. Meet je wat je wilt meten?

Je maakt echter onderscheid tussen meerdere soorten testen. Die zullen nu worden
besproken.
Maximum performance tests
Deze testen zijn bedoeld om de absolute hoogtepunten op te zoeken van wat een
individu kan presteren. Er is sprake van drie subcategorieën bij deze testen. (1) je hebt
achievement en aptitude tests. (2) deze testen kunnen objectief en subjectief zijn en (3)
deze testen kunnen speed of power tests zijn. Ik zal de termen uitleggen: achievement
houdt in dat je kennis of vaardigheid over een onderwerp meet terwijl aptitude
cognitieve vaardigheden meet. Achievement wordt gebruikt om te meten wat je hebt
bereikt, aptitude wordt gebruikt om te meten wat je kunt bereiken. Objective tests zijn
tests die een objectieve meting hebben, zoals een likertschaal. Je spreekt van een
subjective test wanneer degene die de test afneemt de antwoorden zelf interpreteert en
scoort. Een speed test is een test waarbij alleen de snelheid van het antwoord belangrijk
is. Een power test is een test waarbij snelheid niet van belang is, en juist wordt gekeken
naar hoe veel vragen die steeds moeilijker worden de participant juist kan
beantwoorden.
Typical response tests
Een typical response test is ontworpen om het typisch gedrag van mensen te meten.
Bijvoorbeeld een persoonlijkheidstest. Ook bij persoonlijkheidstesten maak je
onderscheid tussen objectieve en subjectieve testen. Een objective personality test maakt
gebruik van stellingen waarop je ja/nee kunt antwoorden.
Projective personality tests
Deze testen bevatten vaak een ambigue stimulus, zoals een inktvlek, die wordt
gepresenteerd aan de participant. De participant mag dan alles zeggen wat naar
aanleiding van de stimulus in hem opkomt.
