Bouwtechniek College 2Doormiddel van een levenscyclus analyse kan worden bepaald of een
materiaal duurzaam is of niet. Dit wordt gedaan met een ‘van wieg tot
graf’ (cradle to cradle) benadering. Het NIBE basiswerk milieuclassificaties
is de verzameling en waardering van alle in- en uitstromen en mogelijke
milieueffecten van een productsysteem gedurende zijn levenscyclus. De
som van alle milieukosten geeft het milieu-kostenplaatje weergegeven als
een score in één getal. Enkele zaken worden niet meegenomen door NIBE,
dit zijn: productie van minimale hulpstoffen, transport van werknemers en
materieel, menselijke arbeid, onderhoud (schoonmaken) en
werkzaamheden op de bouw.
Wat zijn biobased materialen? Deze zijn gemaakt van
hernieuwbare/nagroeibare grondstoffen. Materialen zoals bomen en
gewassen. Biobased materialen moeten aan enkele criteria voldoen:
Grondstof uit de levende natuur
Hernieuwbaar binnen de levensduur van een gebouw
Beperken van de CO2-emissie
In de afvalfase recyclebaar of composteerbaar
Biobased materialen zijn qua milieubelasting niet persé beter dan andere
materialen.

Worden gemaakt uit nagroeibare elementen
Geen lang cyclische CO2 uitstoot/geen broeikaseffect
Kan verbrand worden door kort cyclische CO2 uitstoot
