,1.0 INTRODUCTION
1.1 ORGANIZATIANAL PROFILE
The Musical Museum was established by the late Frank Holland over 50 years ago.
He began with a private collection of around a half-dozen reproducing pianos, and in
1963, he was granted permission to use the former St George's Church in Brentford
to house the collection (Museum, 2021). He was only permitted to use the museum
for two years at first, but it was still there 40 years later. For the past four centuries,
the Musical Museum reveals the interesting tale of how people have captured and
listened to music. The collection contains a remarkable variety of instruments and
inventions, including reproducing pianos, orchestras, self-playing violins, pipe
organs, gramophones, and synthesizers, ranging in scale from tiny music boxes to
the Mighty Wurlitzer theatre organ in our concert hall. Learn about the recording and
reproduction of songs, as well as seeing and hearing them in motion
(musicalmuseum, 2020).
The British Piano Museum was founded in 1966 as a Charitable Trust, and in the
early years, a number of popular pianists who had recorded rolls earlier in the
century came to the Museum to hear themselves play (musicalmuseum, 2020).
