SLIDE 1 anecdote Did you know that almost a quarter of
the Dutch population was unhappy at
their workplace in 2018? These
numbers are from the Dutch bureau
of statistics. Around 1 million of the
working population suffers from
several burnout symptoms.
SLIDE 2 Introduce Before we are getting started with
yourself some more information about people
how are unhappy at their working
place, I am going to introduce myself.
I am Nienke and I am 18 years old. I
study Human resource management at
the University of applied sciences
Leiden.
SLIDE 3 Management Many employees are in the 'Hyper
pressure zone' which has to do with using
unhealthy energy. Examples include
achieving short-term goals, just being
focused on performance, self-interest,
and emotional frustrations. If you do
not achieve your goals, you must
work harder. As a result, a lot of
energy is leaking away in the
workplace.
SLIDE 4 Low self- Another problem is a low self-
awareness awareness. You will develop more
emotional skills if you will work on
this. In most of the organizations they
just start with analyzing the problems
but instead of just analyzing they
should research the real problem.

SLIDE 5 Costs
A Dutch tv show called ‘Brand punt
plus tells us on April 24, 2018, the
costs of the underperforming
employee, which is 3.6 billion euros a
year. Underperformance at work
occurs at all levels where current
performance is compared with a
certain norm. This influences energy
management and ultimately on the
self-image.
SLIDE 6 Underachievement is usually
attributed to a lack of motivation and
mental absence. Every stimulation we
receive every day can also lead to
underachievement. Another reason
for underperforming is rooted in the
position, each position is delineated,
your own experience about your
duties.
SLIDE 7 The appraisal system also promotes
underachievement, because you are
judged on skills and performance and
not on self-esteem. Are you
performing well then you are a good
employee, are you underperforming,
then you are a bad employee? You
can get disappointed with your work,
which reduces motivation. Emotional
skills also play a role as well as social
interests and a fixed or a grown
mindset.
SLIDE 8 In addition to the behavioral pattern
physical, psychological, and social
problems can also arise. Whatever
the reason for underachievement is, it
is a pattern of behavior that
'something' needs to change. It is
about how you learn to get 'the best'
out of people because the
consequences of underachieving are
major.
