The ventricle has a C-shape and so does the brain cover it.
There are different horns:
• Anterior horn (purple)
• Posterior horn (red)
• Inferior horn (blue)

Lateral ventricle bordering structures:
• Roof: Corpus callosum (connecting left and right side of the brain)
• Lateral wall: Caudate nucleus
• Floor: Thalamus & Plexus Choroideus
• Medial wall ant horn: Septum pellucidum & fornix
• Medial wall inf horn: Hippocampus & fornix

3rd ventricle bordering structures:
• Anterior wall: Fornix, anterior commissure & OVLT
• Roof: Choroid plexus
• Lateral wall: Thalamus, hypothalamus
• Floor: Chiasm, infundibulum, corpus mammillare
• Posterior wall: Pineal gland, posterior commissure

4th ventricle is a pyramid shaped, a rhomboid base, and an apex into the cerebellum.

The ventricles are filled with cerebrospinal fluid. Cerebrospinal fluid is produced in choroid

plexuses. Choroid plexuses are part of the ventricular lining (roof/floor). Cerebrospinal fluid
passes from the ventricles to the subarachnoid space. Choroid plexus in telencephalon, passes
through foramen of Monro. Choroid plexus in rhombencephalon (4th ventricle) extends into
subarachnoid space as Bochdalek’s flowerbasket.

At slices we look at the anterior side (front of the brain). Grey matter in de brain is where 2
there is no myelin, neuronal cell bodies are over there. White matter in the brain is where
there are mainly axons with myelin. Structure in white matter, white longitudinal spots are
from anterior to posterior and the horizontal stripes are from corpus callosum connecting
left and right side of the brain.

Second slide through frontal lobe and on the bottom little temporal lobe. Corpus callosum
(axons running from left to right and right to left). Underneath Corpus callosum (is roof of 3
lateral ventricle) is the anterior horn of lateral ventricle. Between the two lateral
ventricles (yellow) there is a connective tissue sheet called septum pellucidum. Blue
shows grey matter with nucleus (lumb of neurons) of the CNS.

Third slide through frontal lobe and temporal lobe. Yellow shows lateral ventricle (lower
yellow 3rd ventricle). Floor of 3rd ventricle is white and has to do with optic nerve.
Underneath Septum pellucidum is axonal fiber tract (green) called the fornix. 4
Fourth slide through frontal and temporal lobe. Yellow is connected, so 3rd ventricle is
connected to lateral ventricle passing through foramen Monroi. Fornix is still present
(light green).

, Fifth slide through frontal and temporal lobe. Roof of 3rd ventricle and floor of
lateral ventricle is structure which is the choroid plexus. White area in between is
underneath corpus callosum which is the outside world (subarachnoid space). 6
Lowest yellow shows inferior horn of lateral ventricle. Low blue shows caudate
nucleus.

Sixth slide little yellow at bottom show inferior lateral ventricle with plexus choroid.
Seventh slide shows middle yellow the beginning of Aquaductus Sylvii. Before that in
the middle is a connection from left to right is the posterior commissure. Caudal end
of 3rd ventricle and in between 3rd ventricle and aquaduct. Lowest green shows
hippocampus 7
Eight slide, inferior and superior part of the ventricles are connected. Lateral side of
lateral ventricle is still the caudate nucleus. Septum pellucidum is gone, too far in the
back.

Ninth slide, lowest yellow shows ventricle with plexus choroid. Tenth slide shows the
posterior horn of the lateral ventricle into the occipital lobe.

Eleventh until fourteenth shows from rostral to caudal (top to bottom). 8
