The purpose of this assignment is to describe the research design and methodology. Please

Purpose of study: The purpose of this study was to explore the individual, interpersonal,
socioenvironmental factors and conditions that constrained mother’s ability to better food
choices for their preschool-aged children, and the strategies that mothers used to push back
against these constraints. This study was conducted because there has been rapid increase in
childhood obesity in Canada, effecting healthcare costs, physical and psychological wellbeing,
and ability to engage with peers and participating in physical activities/sports. (Walsh,
Meagher-
Stewart, &McDonald, 2015)
Research The research design method used was a constructivist grounded
Design theory. This method uses fewer participants then most
descriptive research methods. The reasoning for fewer subjects
is the increased ability to conduct more detailed interviews. By
using this type of methodology, researchers are able to focus on
certain population of a substantive area and offer an
explanation of the findings.
Sample This study included a theoretical sampling of mothers with
Selection toddlers (ages 3-5). The subjects were selected from settings
that provided services to preschool aged children in large
municipality in Eastern Canada. “Participants included 18
mothers with children between ages of 3-5, who did not have
any dietary restrictions and represented a range of economic,
educational, cultural, and geographical backgrounds.” (Walsh,
2015) Mothers ranged from ages 23-48, with average mean of
30 years. 11 mothers were either married or living in common
law marriages. 14 had a high school diploma or higher, and 12
were unemployed. 10 had incomes below the Canadian low-
