Het land ‘Thuis’ heeft 1200 eenheden arbeid ter zijn beschikking. Het kan twee goederen
produceren: appelen en bananen. Om 1 kg appelen te produceren zijn 3 eenheden arbeid nodig,
voor 1 kg bananen zijn er 2 eenheden arbeid nodig.
a) Geef grafisch de productiemogelijkhedencurve van Thuis weer.
b) Wat is de opportuniteitskost voor Thuis van appelen in termen van bananen?
c) In de afwezigheid van handel, wat zal de prijs van appels in termen van bananen zijn?
Veronderstel nu dat er nog een ander land is, ‘Buiten’, dat 800 eenheden arbeid ter zijn beschikking
heeft. Het produceert eveneens appelen en bananen. Om 1 kg appelen te produceren zijn 5
eenheden arbeid nodig, voor 1 kg bananen is er 1 eenheid arbeid nodig.
d) Teken de productiemogelijkhedencurve van ‘Buiten’ op een grafiek.
e) Stel dat in autarkie (= zelfvoorzienende economie), elk land de helft van zijn
arbeidsvoorraad gebruikt in de productie van elk product. Wat is de productie? Stel dit voor
op de grafiek in (d).
f) Waarin moet elk land zich specialiseren?
g) Tussen welke twee waarden moet de ruilvoet liggen opdat handel voordelig is voor beide
landen?

a) Gegevens ‘Thuis’: L = 1200 1kg appels = 3L 1kg bananen = 2L
- Snijpunt met de y-as: Land Thuis heeft 1200 arbeiders. Voor 1 kg appels zijn 3 arbeiders
nodig. Hoeveel kg appels kunnen deze 1200 arbeiders samen produceren?
1200/3 = 400
- Snijpunt met de x-as: Land Thuis heeft 1200 arbeiders. Voor 1 kg bananen zijn 2 arbeiders
nodig. Hoeveel kg bananen kunnen deze 1200 arbeiders samen produceren?
1200/2 = 600
De assen mogen ook omgedraaid worden – appels op de x-as en bananen op de y-as.
b) Voor 1 kg appels zijn 3 arbeiders nodig, hoeveel kg bananen kunnen deze 3 arbeiders produceren
als er 2 arbeiders voor 1 kg nodig zijn?
1 kg appels = 3L/2L . 1 kg bananen
= 1,5 kg bananen
c) De prijs van 1 kg appels zonder handel is gelijk aan de opportuniteitskost dus 1,5 kg bananen.
