Verklaring van de titel;
De titel is Tralievader. De verklaring van de titel is dat Jochel, de vader van de vertelpersoon, in
de Tweede Wereldoorlog in een concentratiekamp heeft gezeten. De vader lijkt nog steeds
gevangen te zijn, hij kan geen normaal leven leiden vanwege zijn oorlogstrauma. Hij zit achter
‘emotionele tralies’. Vandaar de titel; Tralievader.
Genre;
Dit is een novelle, een korte roman. Ook worden er kleine poëtische stukjes aan toegevoegd. Het
is ook een autobiografie omdat Carl Friedman de ik-persoon is. Er worden delen van haar eigen
leven in het boek verteld.
Thema en motief;
‘Kamp’. De kinderen luisteren naar de verhalen van hun vader, die achter emotionele tralies zit.
Jochel (de vader van Carl, Simon en Max) verteld over het concentratiekamp, de kinderen
geloven zelfs nog dat de SS en het kamp bestaan.
Ook speelt angst een grote rol, want Jochel is bang dat hij weer terug moet naar het kamp, en wil
nu af en toe nog steeds vluchten voor de Duitsers.
De Tweede Wereldoorlog, want tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog heeft de vader van Carl, Simon
en Max in een concentratiekamp gezeten, hier heeft hij een groot trauma overgehouden.
Trauma is dus ook een motief, Jochel heeft dit opgelopen door het concentratiekamp.
