Leishmania – voorkomen
Wereldwijd, overal waar water is.
In Nederland komt Leishmania normaal gesproken
niet voor. Alle honden in Nederland met Leishmania
komen uit het buitenland.
Leishmania - cyclus
Leeft in hond, mens, vos. Overgedragen via een
zandvlieg.
Zandvlieg zuigt bloed, wordt geïnfecteerd. Bijten
vlieg: flagelstadium. Volgend dier infecteren.
Flagelstadium dringt in de gastheer de macrofaag in.
Lastig te bereiken voor medicatie.
In macrofaag verliest hij de zweepstaart en gaat
delen. Cel zit zo vol dat hij stuk gaat, andere cellen
weer infecteren.

Incubatietijd: 1-3 weken.
N.B. 90% >3 maanden na bezoek buitenland, tot jaren!!
Ontstaan van ziekte
Immuuncomplexen, kunnen vastlopen = vasculitis. Roepen ontstekingsreactie op.
Parasiet triggert immuunrespons lichaam. Door afweerreactie wordt je met name ziek.
